Bringing alive women's voices from our past, shedding light on the present and evoking our stories through writing, speaking and performance.

Susan Butruille has lived in Wyoming, Alaska, Oregon, Washington State, and Washington, D.C., and traveled to places she only dreamed of as a child in small-town Colorado. She grew up believing that men made most history of consequence. But her first presentation on historical women opened her to a world she still travels, discovering brilliant, uppity women from ancient times to those who are path breakers of today.

Susan's writing career began with a fishing column ("What's Up Dock?") in Alaska. She went on to write three award-winning books in the Women's Voices Series. Her writing includes numerous articles, histories and columns in national and regional publications; her musical suffrage play, Recipe For Justice; and the script for the film Bound For Oregon, now showing at the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Susan's Master's degree thesis from Portland State University, "Tracing the Dark Madonna from Ephesus to Provence to Chartres," reflects her passion for women's history, spirituality, and faraway places.

A former trustee of the World Affairs Council of Oregon, Susan co-coordinates the Great Decisions discussion series in her town of Leavenworth, Washington. She co-founded Dangerous Women, Leavenworth's annual women's history showcases, where she serves as historian, writer and performer.

Susan studied songwriting in Ireland, followed the trail of the Ancient Mother Goddess in Turkey with her mother, and wrote her way on a ship across the Atlantic. She has taken her dramatic-musical presentations, workshops, and speeches from the Oregon Trail to our nation's capital to France.

So many uppity women -- so little time to discover them!
